Doctor Wine’s Selection at Vinitaly
by Daniele Cernilli 16-03-2015
More than an editorial this is an invitation for all the readers, backers and producers who appreciate and support Doctor Wine. The invitation is to visit our stand at Vinitaly which will be situated between the Puglia and Abruzzo pavilions, just behind Tuscany’s. There you will find dispensers offering 99 wines to sample with calm, a selection made taking into account the quality of the wines made available. The selection was restricted to only those wines that have been either reviewed on the Doctor Wine website or in our Essential Guide to Italian Wines. Seminars will also be offered that you can signed up for. The first one will be dedicated to the Tuscan coast, the Chianti Classico, followed by The Great South, An Overview on Friuli, The wines of Northern Italy and the last will be The wines of Central Italy. This year I think they will be held in Italian (we have not yet decided) but they may also be some in English and so you will have to put up with my ‘Made in Italy’ or better yet ‘Made in Rome’ accent. Nevertheless, I hope it’s improving. What I would like to do most of all at Vinitaly is to meet as many of our readers as possible. It will be an opportunity to exchange opinions, receive some advice and suggestions, to learn and, in general, to find out what you expect from Doctor Wine and how we can improve. In other words a chance for some face-to-face feedback, to discuss and get excited even more about the world of wine. This past year we have had some very encouraging results. Our Essential Guide to Italian Wines has all but sold out, something which has made publisher Mondadori happy, and visits to our website have more than doubled over last year with more and more people reading our English version. Thus we are moderately content and I say moderately because we know we need to up our game. We are doing this with some new collaborators like Marco Oreggia, the ‘Robert Parker of olive oil’, along with Valeria Cesari, Antonella Amodio and Giuseppe Carrus for beer. We’re doing our best but we still need your input. See you at Vinitaly.
